How Does A Car Heater Work?
The car heater is part of a system that has two purposes. Firstly, to keep the engine cool and secondly heats the body of your car when its cold outside. Therefore your car heater does more than heat the interior of the vehicle.
The heater interacts with:
- Heater core
- Coolant
- Thermostat
- Radiator
- Heater hoses
- Heater control valve
- HVAC control panel
- Water pump
Your car’s engine automatically makes heat while you’re driving. To keep the engine from getting too hot, some of this heat needs to be sent away. The exhaust system gets rid of most of the heat that the engine makes. The coolant that runs through your car’s HVAC system gets the rest of the heat.
The liquid moves the heat from the engine to the heater core. The heater center gets warm when this takes place. Now, the fan motor in the car will push warm air out of the heater core and into the cabin. The rate at which this air moves will depend on how high or low you set the HVAC control panel in your car.
Does The Car Heater Use Gasoline?
A little gasoline is used but not very much at all. Your car uses heat from its own cooling system to generate warm air. The coolant receives the heat made by a running engine and this heat is blown into the car. So you car heater does not require fuel to keep the inside warm but it does require power to work. Then heat is required, a signal is sent to a small fan that starts to rotate. This involves using a very small amount of gasoline.
Will My Gas Mileage Go Up If I Do Not Use The Heater?
Switching off your heater will not have any notable effect on the fuel economy of your vehicle. While it is true the heater is part of a complicated system it doesn’t use any notable amount of gas.
